Like paper, porcelain has a history. It’s white too, a blank on which I draw out red and blue, two colours like oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood in a biological drawing. I draw to remember and to hold the memory and the feeling. The subject and I were connected once and in the drawing out we are connected again. Perhaps I am distilling what I wanted of him into this drawing. After the drawing, the kiln fire, and I don’t know what will come out. I loosen control as the drawing goes from my hands, through the fire and into the world.
